Cozy Halloween

Who said that the eve of Halloween can't be that lovely? Hello there, I spent the evening arranging flowers with the help of a pair of little clever hands. We lit some tea candles and enjoyed the beauty of our expertly arranged flowers over a warm cuppa.. and a bottle of milk! hee hee

My little Alphie helped me sort and place the flowers in this sweet white pitcher vase I bought from Ikea a couple of weeks ago. Forgive me for the poor resolution of the photos, as I only took them with my ever reliable iphone camera.

In our small way, we offer flowers, candles and prayers to loved ones who have passed away. In my hometown, Halloween and all souls' and saints' day are a long celebration, a national public holiday that draws families closer in remembering the dead and celebrating the feast of the Saints. Families would spend the whole day (even through the night) in the cemetery on the eve and the day of Halloween, having picnic as they gather around the tomb of their deceased.

When I was young, we dont get to do that as much as we want to, because we live quite far from where our deceased loved ones are buried, so we would just stay home and help our "nanay" (grandmother) arrange flowers, light the candles on the doorstep and enjoy her home cooked "meriendas" (desserts, pastries). We will share ghosts stories and listen to some from our nanay. Well, nothing's changed much now though, even now that I have my own family, I still don't get to go on picnics at the cemetery on Halloween... but I still get to arrange flowers and offer prayers although there are no more meriendas prepared by my nanay, I get to do all these in the eve of Halloween with the sweetest person in my life.

I hope you find peace and joy in your celebration, and may the spirit of Halloween bring you good memories and only the friendliest ghosts! I will try to post some horrible photos about halloween tomorrow if I can, haha *^_^*

Goodnight.
